Nutrition support for menopause
Menopause is reached when you have not had a period for 12 months. After menopause, lower oestrogen levels increase the risk of osteoporosis and heart disease, and muscle mass can fall more quickly.
Good nutrition, together with regular activity and strength training, helps protect bone, heart and muscle health and supports energy and wellbeing.
A dietitian helps you build a practical, evidence-based eating pattern, alongside any treatment such as HRT from your GP or menopause specialist. NICE guidance (NG23) covers medical diagnosis and management of menopause.

Questions
Does HRT replace the need for good nutrition?
No. HRT can help symptoms and bone health, but nutrition and activity remain important for long-term health.
How much calcium do I need?
Most adults need around 700 mg of calcium a day. Your needs may differ if you have osteoporosis or take certain medicines, so we tailor advice to you.
Can diet help with hot flushes?
Some people find certain triggers such as alcohol or caffeine make flushes worse. Medical treatment is often more effective, so speak to your GP.
Do you work alongside my GP?
Yes. With your consent, we coordinate with your GP or menopause specialist.
Are consultations online?
Yes. All consultations are by secure video, across the UK.
