Nutrition support for binge eating disorder
Binge eating disorder (BED) involves regular episodes of eating a very large amount of food while feeling a loss of control, without regular compensatory behaviours. Binges are often followed by guilt, shame or distress.
Dieting and restriction often make binge eating worse. A specialist dietitian helps you move away from restrictive cycles, establish regular eating and develop practical ways to manage urges and emotional eating.
NICE recommends binge-eating-disorder-focused guided self-help or group therapy as first-line treatment. Our nutrition support works alongside psychological care, and we coordinate with your GP or therapist with your consent.

Questions
Is binge eating disorder the same as overeating?
No. Binge eating disorder is a recognised eating disorder. It involves regular binges with a sense of loss of control and significant distress, not occasional overeating.
Will you put me on a diet?
No. Restrictive dieting usually makes binge eating worse. We focus on regular, satisfying eating and practical strategies.
Can you help with emotional eating?
Yes. We help you understand the links between emotions, stress and eating, and build other ways of coping, alongside psychological support where needed.
How many sessions will I need?
Our care pathway includes at least four follow-ups after the assessment, so we can review progress and adjust your plan.
Are consultations online?
Yes. All consultations are by secure video, across the UK.
What if I become unwell?
If you feel physically unwell, faint, have chest pain or are having thoughts of harming yourself, contact your GP or NHS 111 straight away, or call 999 in an emergency.
