Fuelling development, not just performance

Academy and pathway athletes often train many hours a week while still growing, studying and developing. Their energy and nutrient needs are high, and under-fuelling can affect growth, bone health, injury risk and long-term progress.

We support athletes on talent pathways, including football and rugby academies and national pathway programmes. Where appropriate, we work with families, coaches and support staff, so advice fits school, home meals and training.

Our focus is healthy, sustainable habits and adequate fuelling. We do not set restrictive targets for developing athletes, and we screen for low energy availability and RED-S.

HOW WE WORK WITH ATHLETES

Ongoing support, not one-off sessions

We do not work with athletes on a one-off basis. Lasting change to fuelling, recovery and performance takes time, so after your initial consultation we recommend a minimum of three follow-up consultations.

Questions

What age do you support?

We support pathway athletes of secondary-school age and older. Athletes under 14 with a sports nutrition query book an adult consultation, and a parent or carer can join the session.

Do you work with academies and clubs?

Yes. We support individual athletes and can provide education and support for academies, clubs and pathway programmes.

Do you set body composition targets for young athletes?

No. For developing athletes, our focus is adequate fuelling, health and long-term development.

Can parents join the consultation?

Yes. For younger athletes, a parent or carer should attend, and we welcome family involvement at any age with the athlete's consent.

Do you screen for RED-S?

Yes. We screen for low energy availability as part of every assessment.

How many sessions will I need?

We do not work with athletes on a one-off basis. We recommend at least three follow-ups after the initial consultation so we can adjust your plan as training changes.

Are consultations online?

Yes. All consultations are by secure video, so we can support you wherever you train in the UK or worldwide.
