If your child is overweight, there's lots you can do to help them become a healthy weight as they grow.

As a parent, it can sometimes be difficult to tell that your child is overweight. A child may not look particularly heavy to be overweight.

And because more children are becoming heavier at a younger age, we have become used to seeing bigger children.

It is so important for your child to maintain a healthy relationship with food if they are overweight. Dieting should be avoided. It is important to adopt an intuitive eating approach with children so they can learn how to listen to their hunger and satiety signals, build confidence and make informed decisions.

When we restrict specific foods from our child's diets completely, it is likely to lead to a binge when they are exposed to the restricted food again.

Our expert dietitian's help guide you raise intuitive eaters that will achieve a healthy weight whilst still adopting a healthy lifestyle and a healthy relationship with food.

How our paediatric dietitian's can help your child

  • Learn how to listen to hunger and satiety signals

  • Meal guides

  • Healthy swaps

  • Learn how to enjoy physical activity

  • Identify if they are emotionally eating and strategies to cope with their emotions that do not involve food

  • Identify reasons underlying their behaviour (root cause approach)

  • Identify foods they love and enjoy and build them into their diet

  • Include foods that will promote saitiety and good gut health

Initial consultations are 60 minutes and together you and your paediatric dietitian will take into consideration your child's medical history, current feeding patterns, challenges, dietary needs, medications and preferences.

After your consultation you will receive detailed individualised advice and recommendations for your child. All reports and documentation will be shared via your personal secure account.

Follow ups will be arranged by your paediatric dietitian.
